IPA Cupcake with a coffee icing

Crazy enough, Nathan and I decided to try a not-so simple recipe as our first attempt at baking. We wanted to merge two things we both really - love coffee and beer. For the cupcakes we chose the Sculpin IPA from Ballast Point Brewing. The batter was very light and the cupcakes turned out really wonderful. I am not a huge beer person but the slight taste it gave these cupcakes had me wanting more!

We knew that the Sculpin IPA had a lot of fruitier and more citrusy taste notes so we thought it would be a good idea to pair it with a coffee icing. We chose Santa Helena - Colombia from Kuma Coffee and this pair was seriously delicious.

Although this was not the most practical approach for a first time baking attempt, we had so much fun. Choosing these favor combinations was really stretching for us and called us to step out of our comfort zones. This turned out surprisingly well.
